That means that when there are claims or statements made about the benefits of a certain ingredient or product, competent and reliable scientific studies are in place and have been reviewed to support them.

While THREAD selects and uses the highest-quality ingredients for all its supplements, here are a few of the clinically studied ingredients used in THREAD supplements that you’ll want to know more about.

Clinically Studied Sensoril® Ashwagandha (found in THREAD’s Daily Fuel)
What is Ashwagandha?
Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb that traditionally has been used in the Ayurvedic tradition in India for thousands of years. It’s an “adaptogen,” which means that it can help balance your body when it’s under physical or other stress—adapting and normalizing systems, while helping to build up resistance to future stressors. By doing so, it can elevate the body’s function and future performance. Muscle growth is similar to how this amazing ashwagandha adaptogen works, since your body adapts to the physical stress over time and builds more muscle to meet muscle-building stress in future trainings.
Ashwagandha is brimming with flavonoids (beneficial natural substances found in plants) and steroidal lactones (other beneficial compounds found in plants) called withanolides. Withanolides are generally believed to boost energy and performance levels, to help support a healthy response to stress and to bolster a positive outlook, among other benefits.

What are the Overall Benefits of Ashwagandha for Performance?
Ashwagandha has the potential to help with increasing overall strength and endurance, while also helping muscles remain healthy and strong. Additionally, it can help to boost recovery time, reaction time and overall cognitive function. Of course, one of its main benefits is that it can help to promote a healthy response to stress. In other words, it can help reduce stress levels, which can be beneficial for optimal exercise performance.

What are Some of the Science-Backed Claims for Clinically Studied Sensoril® Ashwagandha?
The Sensoril® ashwagandha ingredient was chosen for many reasons. Among those are that it is patented and is one of the most studied and popular ashwagandha ingredients on the market for the dietary supplement industry. It is standardized to 10% withanolides (the active ingredient, which is more than most ashwagandha ingredients on the market, which typically come in at 1% to 3%) and is backed by multiple clinical studies showing that it can reduce stress and minimize fatigue. It’s also been on the market for 20 years, so it has an impressive “tried and true” track record.
Among the science-backed claims for Sensoril® are that it:

  • Promotes a calm, relaxed state of mind
  • Promotes a positive mindset
  • Helps promote more restful sleep
  • Enhances feelings of well-being
  • Boosts energy and reduces fatigue
  • Helps promote mental clarity and concentration
  • Helps alleviate the effects of stress and tension
  • Helps promote a healthy response to stress
  • Reduced serum concentrations of cortisol) (the stress hormone)
  • Increased serum concentration of DHEA-S) (It is a hormone the body stores in the adrenal cortex and circulates in the body as a storage form of DHEA. DHEA is produced in the adrenal glands that helps produce other hormones, such as testosterone and estrogen.)

Clinically Studied Partially Hydrolyzed Eggshell Membrane (found in THREAD’s Daily Fuel)

What is Eggshell Membrane?
Eggshell membrane is found directly beneath the eggshell. It’s a thin but fibrous lining on the inside of the shell, which separates the egg white from the shell. It has two layers and substances similar to Types I and V collagens are found in each of the two layers of the eggshell membrane. Type V collagen is one of the minor collagen components, forming interstitial collagen fibers—along with Type I collagen—and plays a significant role in regulating the development of collagen fibers of connective tissue. Type V collagen co-exists with Type I collagen in joint cartilage, while supporting healthy collagen fibers of Type I collagen.

What are the General Benefits of Eggshell Membrane for Performance?
In general, eggshell membrane collagen contains beneficial compounds such as chondroitin sulfate, hyaluronic acid, collagen and other glycosaminoglycans—all of which occur naturally together within the eggshell membrane and is an effective combination that joints and more need to thrive.

Due to these beneficial compounds inherently found in eggshell membrane collagen, it can help to promote joint comfort, help with exercise-induced joint discomfort or stiffness, can benefit knees and their comfort and can even promote exercise recovery. Here’s a little more about those helpful compounds. Chondroitin sulfate is normally found in cartilage around joints in the body. It is part of Glycosaminoglycans, or GAGs, which are naturally occurring carbohydrates found in connective tissue, cartilage, joint fluid and skin. Chondroitin sulfate is one of six glycosaminoglycans that help form connective tissue of skin, tendons, cartilage, ligaments and bone matrix.

Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced in our bodies, holding water and forming a gel-like substance. Hyaluronic acid serves to hydrate the skin and hair, fills the eyes, surrounds tissues around our nerves and is contained in the synovial fluid between our joints. It lubricates and cushions joints, thereby reducing friction in the joints, and also serves as a shock absorber in the joints. Known as “the glue that holds us together,” collagen is a protein made up of building blocks called amino acids and is so important that it makes up over 35 percent of all the proteins in the body, and different bodily systems and organs need specific proteins serving a variety of functions. Some of those functions of protein occur in the blood, where they are necessary for proper clotting and for the transport of molecules, while others are involved in proper digestion, including enzymes helping to break down food. Still others are in muscles where they serve to support healthy and proper movement. Overall, collagen literally functions to hold the body together—everything from joints, bones, ligaments and tendons to the cellular level. It also supports health in a variety of ways, depending on the type or types of collagen consumed.

Glycosaminoglycans, or GAGs, are naturally occurring in the body and found in connective tissue, cartilage, joint fluid and skin. Chondroitin sulfate is one of six glycosaminoglycans that help form connective tissue of skin, tendons, cartilage, ligaments and bone matrix. GAGs serve to support collagen and elastin, which take up the spaces between bones and various fibers, while also serving to support gut health.
